A month long trip. How does one recover from that? Many folks would say rest up for a few days before getting back to work and into the flow of “normal” life again. I had a bit of a difficult time with this.

I slept for an absurd amount of hours. Okay, I slept for 14 hours. After two days, I was bored senseless. I took some time to clean up Roxanne (my SV650). She had taken her fair share of abuse, dead bugs (some impressively large), road grime, etc. After a few hours scrubbing away, an oil change, some chain lube – she was back in perfect shape.

Spending that much time on a stock bike that was in no way, shape, or form designed to be ridden across the country and back again, you’d think I’d be eager to make use of my car for a while. Let me tell you something – I don’t care how fancy or fast your car may be. It ain’t got shit on the fun you can have on the slowest motorcycle you can find.

So, how does one recover from a month long trip? Mostly by spending my time thinking about where my next trip will take me. What adventures will we have? What is around that next bend up there? How long will it take for me to see a mountain view more beautiful than my favorite one so far?
